Getting Started With the AppĮLSA is available for free download from the Google Play Store. This was a huge relief to me because I could not afford to take English classes. Twenty-seven hours of hard work and dedication using the app is equivalent to an English as a Second Language (ESL) course at an American University. Moreover, ELSA is not a stagnant piece of technology – it gets smarter each day I use it, making it the perfect coach for people with evolving and improving English skills. The app’s AI coach pays attention to my progress and provides personalized feedback on my progress. This is the first app in the market to do so. With this, the app is able to recognize a variety of speech patterns, including non-native speakers. How it WorksĮLSA’s AI was developed using voice data of English speakers with various accents. Unlike other apps that focus on written English, ELSA’s lessons are geared towards practical and conversational English that does not sound awkward. With ELSA, I have access to over 3,000 lessons in conversational English. One of the best things about ELSA is its adaptive learning system and evolving AI model, which allows the app to track my performance and provide feedback based on my performance and progress. It efficiently uses artificial intelligence (AI) to provide real-time speech recognition feedback on fluency and pronunciation. ![]() Image Source: ELSA SpeakĮLSA is an English learning coach who helps users like me stay motivated in practicing to speak English. when I was a teenager, I’ve always been very conscious of how I spoke English. If you want a package that will do it all, this isn't it. The interface isn't fancy, but it is clear. In addition, the instructions for CCleaner are very clear upfront that the program is highly configurable, and it suggests that you start with making some basic configuration settings - like choosing which cookies to keep. To its credit, Piriform doesn't make any claims that CCleaner is anything other than what it is, and the company provides tools for other system maintenance tasks. What's different about this one is that it will uninstall programs that Windows won't for whatever reason, and it will remove programs on the installed programs list - which is a real help when a program is partially uninstalled but leaves its ghost behind in the form of nonremovable icons. Of course, you know that Windows includes an Add or Remove Programs choice in the Control Panel. One other CCleaner feature that can be a real help in some cases is a software uninstaller. Both capabilities can be handy for some applications, such as keeping your hard disk free of junk without having to think about it. ![]() However, unlike the others, it doesn't provide a report of exactly how much it found, although it does tell you what it proposes to do and later what it did, both of which are nice in case something goes wrong.ĬCleaner also has some capabilities that you won't find in other packages, including the ability to run the program from the command line and to run in the background. Also like the other products, it didn't always get everything on the first pass - CCleaner found 1,029 registry issues, but it took three passes to do it. Like the other products in this comparison, CCleaner is able to analyze your registry and remove entries that don't need to be there. It's a long list, but fortunately, CCleaner remembers your choices from one use to the next. However, you need to know which cookies are important so that you don't, for example, inadvertently keep your favorite e-commerce site from recognizing you. ![]() For example, CCleaner will clear out all of the cookies that Web sites place on your computer, and it will give you a list of proposed deletions that you can make changes to. Syngal had boosted sales at Old Navy by an extra billion dollars during her four-year tenure at the brand. Nevertheless, there was optimism internally about her appointment as CEO, just as the pandemic was kicking into high gear in the US. As a supply chain expert, she played a crucial role behind the scenes, but was not viewed internally as an expert in the areas that had made Gap a globally recognised brand, and the Fisher family billionaires. Millard “Mickey” Drexler, the merchant prince who had transformed the Gap brand into a global fashion force in the 1980s, had been fired two years earlier, and sales were off their peak. While Green’s reputation as a people manager was less than stellar, some executives believed she unfairly took the fall for the cheap chic family brand’s botched extended-sizing campaign, which spurred a 19 percent drop in year-over-year sales at the group’s biggest moneymaker. They believed Syngal’s strategy was taking too long to show results, and there were questions about the April firing of Nancy Green, the Old Navy CEO who started with Gap in 1988. The company’s founding Fisher family and its allies on the board were less enthralled. “If anyone could, though, Sonia could,” said one former executive, who asked for anonymity. Since her appointment in March 2020, she had sold or closed unsuccessful brands, set in motion a badly needed revamp of the Banana Republic label and hired the rapper then known as Kanye West to a 10-year deal with Gap. Jumpcut activates with a keystroke (Control-Option-V by default) and brings up a Quicksilver-like bezel with the most recent text clip. I tried a few other clipboard history applications, free and commercial, but none of them worked the way I wanted. The solution was Jumpcut, a free utility from Steve Cook. After I upgraded to Leopard, Quicksilver’s clipboard history window became kind of a pain in the ass, popping up for no good reason and forcing me to stop what I was doing to dismiss it. I’m thinking I should just send Red Sweater the $15 for the commercial version of FastScripts, even if I never need all its extra features. That’s how I now control my music players. FastScripts has several advantages over the Apple-supplied menu, not the least of which is the ability to assign a keystroke shortcut to any AppleScript or Unix script in the user’s or system-wide Library/Scripts folder. FastScripts Lite-and its more powerful commercial brother FastScripts-take the place of the AppleScript menu that many users have up on the right side of their menubars (and which can be activated by running the AppleScript Utility application in the /Applications/AppleScript folder). Enter FastScripts Lite, a wonderful and free utility from Daniel Jalkut of Red Sweater Software, maker of the highly-regarded MarsEdit blog editor (which I would use were it not for my deep attachment to TextMate). While I generally prefer the abbreviation mode of issuing commands, I can’t live without the one-key stab to pause and restart iTunes or PandoraBoy. LaunchBar has forced me to adopt a couple of other utility programs to make up for two Quicksilver features it lacks: Never had any such problems with LaunchBar it’s been well worth the license fee. Quicksilver would often take its sweet time bringing up its command interface, was something of a memory hog, and occasionally ate up so much of my iBook G4’s processor time that I’d have to kill and restart it. LaunchBar is certainly not as full-featured (over-featured?) or as flashy as Quicksilver, but it’s been fast and rock-solid on both my computers for these past two months. I’ve now been using LaunchBar exclusively for the past couple of months and have never even been tempted to go back.
